Blocks and section order
The Blocks tab in Checkout adds your own content around Shopify's checkout sections. Blocks are on both plans, Starter and Scale. Changes show in the live preview at once and reach buyers when you press Save. A store without blocks looks exactly as it did before.
Section order
The card at the top of the tab moves Contact, Delivery and Shipping method up or down. Shipping method always stays below Delivery, because the rates need the address first. Payment, Billing address and the Pay button always come last, in that order. No block can be placed inside them or hide them.
With the two-step layout, Contact and Delivery are on the first page and Shipping method on the second. A block placed after a section shows on the page that holds that section.
Where blocks can go
Blocks are grouped by where they appear: top of the page, after contact, after delivery, after shipping method, above payment, below the pay button, the top or bottom of the order summary, and the footer. Each group's Add block menu only lists the types that fit there. Every block has an on/off switch, can move up or down within its group, and can move to another group from its Placement setting.
- On phones the order summary is folded away, so its blocks show in the main column instead.
- For a cart that does not ship (digital products only), blocks placed after delivery or after shipping method show above payment.
- A block marked Incomplete is missing something it needs, such as a review without a name. It stays out of the preview, and Save tells you what is missing.
Reviews
You type the reviews yourself: a name, 1 to 5 stars, the text and an optional photo, up to 6 reviews per block. LatchPay does not read reviews from a review app.
Each review has a Verified buyer switch, off by default. When it is on, the review shows a "Verified buyer" line. You decide this per review and you are responsible for it; LatchPay does not check it and does not add a disclosure line to the checkout.
EU rules for reviews
The EU Omnibus Directive asks stores that show reviews to say whether and how they check that reviews come from real buyers, and bans calling a review verified when it is not. Switch Verified buyer on only for reviews you checked against an order. This is information, not legal advice.
Reservation timer
The timer shows how long the buyer's items stay reserved, and that time is real. When a buyer opens the checkout, LatchPay reserves the items in your Shopify store for 30 minutes. It does this with a draft order tagged latchpay-hold. The countdown is the time left on that reservation as Shopify reports it.
- The countdown never restarts. Reloading the page or opening a second tab shows the same time.
- When it reaches zero, the checkout checks prices and stock again and tells the buyer the result: nothing changed, a new total, or an item that is no longer available in that quantity.
- When the buyer presses Pay, the payment step makes its own reservation in place of this one. If that payment does not go through, the checkout says the items are no longer reserved and stock is checked again at the next Pay.
- When no item in the cart tracks stock, nothing needs reserving and the timer stays hidden. It also stays hidden when an item is already short.
- LatchPay deletes the hold draft orders again. Please do not complete or edit them yourself.
With the timer on, every opened checkout creates one draft order in Shopify admin for up to about 35 minutes. Shopify may limit how many draft orders trial and development stores can create. You cannot change the timer's wording, so it always matches what actually happens.
Trust badges, payment logos and guarantee
Trust badges
Pick up to 6 from a fixed list (secure checkout, encrypted payment, free returns, money-back guarantee, fast shipping, customer support, quality guarantee, sustainable packaging). Each badge has a translated label, or you can write your own. Only pick badges that are true for your store.
Payment logos
Pick the methods to show. The card brands always show. Another method's logo only shows when your checkout can actually offer it: it is not hidden under Payment methods, and it works in the buyer's currency. For now the logos show as small text labels.
Guarantee
An icon, a title, an optional text and an optional link to your refund or shipping policy from Shopify. The link only shows when your store has that policy.
FAQ, text and images
- FAQ: up to 10 questions that buyers open and close.
- Text: an optional heading and a text, plain or in a box.
- Image: a PNG, JPEG or WebP of at most 300 KB, with alt text, which is required.
Your texts show exactly as you type them; links and formatting are not turned into HTML. Images (also review photos) are uploaded to LatchPay and served from the checkout itself; you cannot paste an image URL. SVG files are not accepted. Each Save deletes images that no saved block uses and that are more than 24 hours old.
Free-shipping bar
The bar shows how much more the buyer needs to spend for free shipping, and says so when they reach it. With the source From Shopify shipping rates, LatchPay reads your free-shipping rate from Shopify's general shipping profile. That is a rate of 0 with one condition, a minimum order price. The editor shows what it found, for example "From Shopify: free shipping over €50.00 to Netherlands, Belgium."
- Shopify's amount wins. Your fixed amounts per currency are only used where Shopify gives no answer LatchPay can read: another currency, products in a custom shipping profile, or an unknown country. With the source Fixed amount, Shopify is not read.
- The bar compares the subtotal after discounts, before shipping and taxes.
- It hides when the buyer's real shipping rates would contradict it, and for carts that do not ship.
- Changes to your Shopify shipping rates can take up to an hour to show.
Order note and gift message
Order note adds a text field (20 to 500 characters, you choose the limit), optionally required. Gift message adds a "This order is a gift" checkbox with a message field (20 to 250 characters). Required then only applies when the box is ticked.
Both reach the Shopify order. The order note is at the top of the order's Notes, above LatchPay's own payment line, so packing slips print it. The gift message is an order attribute called "Gift message" under Additional details. They are not copied to abandoned checkouts. See Paid orders in Shopify.
Texts in every language
Each text you write has a default text and optional translations for the 17 checkout languages, under Translations in the field. Buyers see the translation for their language, or the default text when there is none. To check a translation in the preview, pin that language on the Language tab. LatchPay's own wording (the timer, the free-shipping bar, the badge labels) is already translated. See Checkout languages.
Limits
- At most 20 blocks per store, on or off.
- One each of reservation timer, free-shipping bar, order note and gift message.
- No custom CSS or HTML.
- Upsells, order bumps, product recommendations and the thank-you page are not part of blocks yet.
