Payment methods at checkout

Buyers see the methods Whop offers for each order, card first. You can hide methods per store; Whop decides what appears.

What buyers see

The Payment section is Whop's payment box, styled like Shopify's. It lists one row per method: "Credit card" first, then the other methods Whop offers for that order, such as iDEAL, Bancontact or Klarna. The buyer opens a row, fills it in, and Pay now becomes available once that method is complete.

  • Some methods send the buyer to their bank or provider to approve the payment. The checkout says so under the payment box ("You will be sent to iDEAL to finish paying, then back to this page.").
  • When the buyer comes back, the thank-you page waits for Whop to confirm the payment. If that takes longer than 30 seconds, it shows "Your payment is being processed" and keeps checking. It never says the order is confirmed before Whop has confirmed the payment, and the paid order is only created in Shopify then.
  • When a method needs the buyer's phone number, the phone field becomes required and the checkout says why.
  • A declined payment shows a red banner and the buyer can try again or pick another method.
  • When the buyer cancels at the bank or the payment does not go through, the thank-you page sends them back to the same checkout. A red banner says the payment was not completed, and they can pay again with any method.

Who decides which methods appear

Whop decides. For every order, Whop's payment box works out which methods it can offer from your Whop business's settings, the currency, the amount, the buyer's country and their device. There is no way to know that list in advance, so LatchPay never promises a method. It can only hide methods Whop would otherwise show; it cannot add one.

To get a method that does not appear, turn it on for your business on Whop. Some methods, such as buy now, pay later, need Whop's approval first. The Manage on Whop link in the Payment methods card opens your business's payment settings.

Hiding methods

  1. Open the checkout editor

Checkout in the dashboard, then the Layout tab, then the Payment methods card. The setting is per store.

  2. Pick what buyers can use

Everything Whop offers (the default) shows every method Whop offers for the order, minus the ones you hide. Cards only shows the card row and nothing else.

  3. Hide methods you do not want

The methods are grouped under Wallets, Bank and local, Buy now, pay later, and Other. Switching one off hides it at your checkout. Switching one on does not make it appear; Whop still decides. Methods that cannot exist in your store currency are greyed out with "Not available in" and the currency, but you can still switch them, because buyers may pay in another currency.

  4. Save

The preview shows a card row and one placeholder row per group you still show. Saved changes apply on the next checkout that opens.

Hidden to start with

Bank transfers and wires, vouchers and cash payments, balances, crypto and PayPal start hidden. They settle in days, cannot be reversed, or their disputes do not reach the Chargebacks page. You can switch any of them on. The card can never be hidden.

Apple Pay and Google Pay

Apple Pay and Google Pay only appear when the checkout's domain is verified for wallets on your Whop business. LatchPay does not register that domain yet, so today they do not show on the LatchPay checkout even when they are switched on. They are not hidden on purpose; the domain step is simply not built yet.

Separately, the express buttons on your storefront (Shop Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal) stay hidden while LatchPay is on; see Shop Pay, express buttons and checkout apps.

Refunds

Refunds are made on Whop and go back through the method the buyer used. Refund times differ per payment method; a refund of a bank payment such as iDEAL or Bancontact can take several business days to reach the buyer. Whop can also report that a payment cannot be refunded from here. When Whop reports that for a payment LatchPay would refund automatically (a fraud decline or a dispute alert), LatchPay does not refund it, flags the order, and the Orders page shows a Refund on Whop link to the payment.

Fees

Whop's rate for each method applies, and it is not the same for every method. See Settings › Payments on Whop for the rates on your business. LatchPay's usage fee is the same percentage whatever method the buyer used.

Where you see the method

  • Orders: a Paid with column, for example "Visa •••• 4242" or "iDEAL".
  • The Shopify order note ends with "Paid with" and the method. The payment gateway stays "Latchpay via Whop".
  • Insights: a Payment methods card with each method's share of paid orders in the chosen date range.
  • The Payment methods card in the editor lists the methods already used at your checkout.
  • Orders paid before the method was recorded show a dash, or "Not recorded" on Insights.
