Getting started
What LatchPay does, and what it does not
The checkout page and the payment move to LatchPay and Whop. Products, orders, customers and shipping stay in Shopify.
Updated
In short
LatchPay replaces two things on a Shopify store: the checkout page and the payment. When a buyer clicks Checkout, a hosted LatchPay checkout opens instead of Shopify's. It quotes the cart live from your store, takes the payment through Whop on your own Whop business (card first, plus the other methods Whop offers), and writes the paid order back into Shopify. Everything else keeps working the way it does today.
It is not a payment provider inside Shopify's checkout, and it does not copy your catalog anywhere. One Shopify cart becomes one Whop charge for exactly the amount Shopify quoted.
What stays in Shopify
- Products, variants, images, inventory and prices.
- Discount codes and automatic discounts (one code per order at checkout).
- Shipping rates, tax as your store charges it, and the Markets currency the buyer was shopping in.
- Orders, fulfilment, the order status page and the confirmation email.
- Customers and their order history.
What moves to LatchPay and Whop
- The checkout page: a one-page checkout in the shape of Shopify's, hosted by LatchPay and branded per store.
- The payment: Whop's payment box on the checkout, with the card and the other methods Whop offers for the order, charged on your Whop business.
- Refunds happen on Whop and are mirrored into LatchPay and Shopify; chargebacks happen on Whop and are mirrored into LatchPay's Chargebacks page.
Where the money goes
Two separate rails, never mixed:
- Store payments land on your own Whop business. Whop is the merchant of record there, so a buyer's card statement starts with WHOP*. Payouts follow Whop's schedule.
- LatchPay's price is a Whop membership (Starter €100 or Scale €299 per 30 days) plus a usage fee (0.5% or 0.25% of paid orders minus refunds) billed weekly to the card on that membership. It is never taken out of a payout.
Honest limits
Things that change for buyers while LatchPay is on
Shop Pay, PayPal, Google Pay and other express buttons are hidden; they would skip this checkout.
Checkout apps that inject into Shopify's own checkout do not run on the LatchPay checkout.
Shopify may add third-party transaction fees when Shopify Payments is not used. That is Shopify's fee.
Subscriptions (selling plans), order bumps and post-purchase offers are not supported yet.
Nothing changes for buyers until the theme line is in place and you switch the checkout on. Switching off in Settings brings Shopify's checkout back on the next page load.
